Description
This stunning Chalk Hill Estate Red has fantastic pairing versatility. It will do very nicely with beef, steak, duck, lamb, and even grilled salmon. Pour a deep purple glass and get the meal off and running with a platter of carpaccio of beef, sprinkled with peppery arugala, shaved Pecorino and some luscious olive oil. Not a bad start… If you’re having it with the entree, our first choice with this Estate Red would be lamb chops in a crisp potato crust. We love the sensuously rich dark fruits of this intense Chalk Hill juxtaposed against the delicious char of well-marbled steak. The supple tannins will play perfectly with that same char. Another great choice with this Meritage is a grilled salmon filet with delicious tarragon sauce and some silky mashed potatoes. What’ll it be winelovers?Robert Parker Jr: “Opaque purple-black in color, the 2017 Estate Red is a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Malbec and 11% Petit Verdot. It offers slowly unfurling aromas of cassis and black plums with notions of graphite, clay, mint chocolate and cigars. The full-bodied palate offers minerally fruits with a gently chalky frame and very good freshness to lift the finish.” Winery: “Bold, deep and concentrated are just some of the ways to describe our Estate Red. It opens with intense aromas of blackberry, anise, lavender and dark chocolate. The palate offers more savory qualities like iron, tobacco and bay leaf while broad, supple tannins tie all of the flavors together. The finish is strikingly long and complemented by a slight toastiness from the oak influence. Appealing in its youth, this wine will also age beautifully over the next 15 years.” Bottle:750mlVarietal:47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Malbec, 9% Petit Verdot and 7% Merlot.Alcohol %:14.9Acidity g/1,000ml:5.6pH:3.86Aging:20 months 100% French oak, 59% newRegion:Chalk Hill, Napa Valley, California
