Here’s a beautifully mature Bordeaux from the outstanding 2015 vintage. Built circa 1860, Château des Laurets features an octagonal tower overlooking the grounds. The vineyards are planted on south-facing slopes with limestone outcrops. The excellent clay-limestone soil gives this Merlot-based Saint-Émilion wine its distinctive taste. Baron Benjamin de Rothschild acquired this superb property in 2003, aiming from the beginning to achieve its fine potential. Vines average a mature 25 years of age, 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Grapes were cold-soaked and fermentation in oak and stainless steel vats with automatic temperature control. Then given micro-oxygenation during post-fermentation maceration. The wine aged 14 months, 30% in new barrels, 30% in second fill barrels and the rest in tank. Decanter Magazine scored this 93 points and Cellar Tracker scores it 91 points.
