Description
98 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine AdvocateIt takes one vine to produce one glass of Yquem. Probably one of the many reasons it’s largely regarded as the finest sweet wine the world has to offer. In the Sauvage family for over 4 centuries, a winery for 2 of them, Ch̢teau d’Yquem has distinguished itself as the pre-eminent maker of 1er Grand Cru Class̩ Sauternes. Many believe that the only Sauternes an Yquem may be judged against is another vintage of Yquem. Not only are the winemakers highly skilled and knowledgeable, since its inception in 1959, there have only been 33 vintage released. They’re rabidly finicky. The lesson: if you can get your hands on any bottle of Chateau d’Yquem 1er Grand cru class̩ Sauternes, you should. Robert Parker, Jr.’s Wine Advocate: “Containing 135 grams per liter of residual sugar, the pale lemon-gold colored 2016 d’Yquem leaps from the glass with honeyed apricots, pineapple, green mango, crushed rocks, candied ginger, coriander seed and citrus peel with hints of orange blossom. The palate is very tightly wound, vibrant and refreshing with layer upon layer of minerals and spices, finishing with epic poise and persistence. Drink date: 2024-2064.” Mar 201942 months in new oak barrels
