“Le Pigeonnier” is a prized seven-acre vineyard directly adjacent to the grounds of the 500-year-old Lagrézette castle, in the historic Cahors region of France. Located on the third terrace (the clay/limestone ratio on the third terrace coupled with superior drainage and levels of humidity produce wines of great power and depth) overlooking the Lot River, the vineyard slopes gently to the east for maximum exposure to sunlight. Enclosed by ancient stone walls, the vineyard contains an historic monument – a six -leg 17th century dove-cote, which gives the wine its name. No herbicides are employed the vines average 40 years of age. Cover crops between the rows reduces growth and fights against erosion. Hand leaf removal allows for more sunlight and aeration. Green harvesting by hand reduces yields.After hand harvesting the 100% Malbec berries from the Pigeonnier vineyard are removed from the bunches by hand and sorted.
