Description

Poured at Michelin-starred Le Bernardin by the glass, this Chateau Sainte Roseline Lampe de Meduse Rose is our latest delicious discovery. It’s a vinous, terroir driven Rosé that drinks well beyond its price point. It’s from Provence, the first wine region in France to be established, which continues to give us some of summer’s greatest sipping options. With or without food, this Lampe de Meduse is perfect for hot summer afternoons and evenings. Shrimp salad over mixed greens, grilled swordfish with sweet summer corn, and chicken sate are a few things we would pair it with. Our last bit of advice: buy it by the case.Robert Parker Jr.’s Wine Advocate: “A blend of 40% Cinsault, 20% each Grenache and Mourvèdre and 10% each Rolle and Tibouren, the 2019 Cotes de Provence Rose Lampe de Meduse is a pale, copper-tinged rosé. Scents of passion fruit, strawberries and grapefruit emerge on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate is plump and generous, then ends mellow and easy. Drink 2020.” May 2020 Winery: “Light salmon pink. The complex and intense nose features tropical fruit, white peach and mango notes. The long finish provides the right balance between roundness and freshness. Drink as an aperitif. Pairings: grilled fish, summer salad, white meat, Parmigiano-Reggiano.Provence is the only French wine region outside of Bordeaux that has developed a classified ranking for wine ESTATES, not vineyards. There are 18, and Sainte Roseline is the only Classified Estate in the Les Arcs region, therefore making Chateau Sainte Roseline one of the only historical ‘Grand Cru’ estates in Provence.”Lore of the Lampe de Meduse bottle: “The Lampe de Méduse bottle is the estate’s emblem since 1950. Baroness Rasque de Laval, former estate owner, created this bottle to honor the knights of Medusa, one of the oldest wine fraternities in France. Their motto was “Lamp in hand, lamp well lit, let us lift it to eye level and invoke Mother Medusa, let’s lamp!” (LAMP = CHUG) The knights used to “lamp” their wine, in other words, drink it in one gulp (Quarantine style?) “Bottle750ml, cork Varietal40% Cinsault, 20% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Rolle, 10% TibourenAlcohol 13.5%Agingon lees in vatsRegionProvence, France
