The family-owned property, L’Enclos de Viaud is on the gravelly hill of Lalande de Pomerol on the other side of the Barbanne stream separating it from Pomerol. The property holds a mere 6 acres spread on 2 parcels primarily planted with Merlot. The soils are gravel and limestone over clay. Production is barely 1000 cases.Fermentation and maceration last 30 days for a gentle extraction with punch-downs in the tank and stirring in the barrel. The juices are tasted daily in order not to lose the expression of our fruit. The wine aged in French oak barrels for 15 to 18 months, 10% new and 90% one-time used. This wine was awarded a Platinum Medal and 97 points in the Decanter World Wine Awards!
