Description

The Felsina I Sistri Berardenga Chardonnay is also an IGT, Indicazione Geografica Typica Toscana, or a typical geographic representation of Tuscany. It’s the same thing you see after the name of a Super Tuscan, and these letters tell you that this wine is a solid representation of that magical terroir. Yes, they make great white wines there too! It’s got beautiful full body, with no heaviness whatsoever. The result, a beautifully balanced Chardonnay with white and light fruit, good acidity, a creaminess that is addictive, and just the slightest suggestion of vanilla and spice. For those of you who love foie gras, but aren’t wild about Sauternes, try your first glass with seared foie gras over brioche toast with a drizzle of sweet and tart cherry balsamic reduction. Poached salmon with a creamy lemon caper sauce is a terrific entree option. Pumpkin ravioli with a brown butter sauce and freshly grated Parmesan is our go-to meatless option. Don’t forget: Chardonnay isn’t just for dinner. Try a glass of this I Sistri with a classic eggs Benedict and you may never have another Mimosa again. Buon appetito winelovers! James Suckling: “Apricots, lemon pie, chalk, salted almonds and spices on the nose. It’s full-bodied with bright acidity and a spiced, salty character. Rich, oily and toasty finish with excellent length. Drink now or hold.” Aug 2021Winery: “Straw-yellow color. On the nose characteristics of tropical fruit and peach with pleasant hints of spice and well-integrated vanilla. The palate is full and slightly creamy with an elegant and well-balanced structure to ensure better acidity and a fresh flavor. The history of Felsina Chardonnay begins with grafts from French clones on the nearby estate of Farnetella, owned by the winery. New vineyards have been planted at Fèlsina in the area that rises from the Ombrone river up to the Poggiolo farm, where soils are looser than in the Chianti Classico appellation, using a variety of clones and rootstocks that carry forward the research begun decades ago. First vintage 1987.” The Name: “This wine is named (I Sistri) after an ancient instrument from ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. The instrument and its music was dedicated to the worship of Isis, the goddess of agriculture and birth.” Bottle:750ml, corkVarietal:100% ChardonnayAging:6-8 months in small barrels; 3 months further refining in bottleRegion:Tuscany, Italy
