Description
The folks at Caymus love the Argentine Malbec grape so much, they devised a way to ship it safely home to Napa Valley and make a delicious red, the Caymus way. Enter the Red Schooner wines. Winery: “Beautiful Argentina is legendary in the production of fine Malbec wine. Inspired to create Red Schooner, we designed an efficient method to ship grapes over ocean waters while retaining their precious qualities. Our plan was to pinpoint a high-caliber vineyard on the slopes of the Andes mountains, then harvest and chill the fruit, transporting our valuable cargo by sea voyage to Caymus Vineyards. The fruit arrived in excellent condition, looking as though it had just been harvested. We used great care to extract deep color and rich tannins through a slow and delicate fermentation. The wine was then aged 15 months in French oak barrels (50% new) before bottling. Each annual release of Red Schooner will be a designated sequential voyage. This Malbec is made from grapes grown in the Andes Mountains, shipped chilled to Napa Valley and produced with the same techniques as our Caymus Cabernet. Falling outside standard labeling rules, it does not include a vintage date but is known by the voyage from which it was produced. Offering scents of ripe plums and cherries, this wine is powerful and supple, with flavors of French oak and soft tannins.” Bottle750ml, cork VarietalMalbecAlcohol~14.2%Aging15 months in French oak barrels (50% new)Region Mendoza grapes; produced in Napa Valley, California
