The Shafer TD-9 Napa Valley Red Blend is a Wired For Wine staff favorite, and frequent fixture on our table at home. It’s one of those wines that we don’t think has gotten it’s fair shake in the ratings department, but that doesn’t matter to us; this wine drinks like a pricey Napa Cab, only more approachable and versatile. It is a dark, dense, delicious Napa blend that we can’t get enough of. Steaks on the grill, duck confit over a bed of warm lentils tossed with dijon vinagrette, traditional fettucine bolognaise, spaghetti and meatballs and pan-seared rib lamb chops with curry-roasted vegetables are just some of the things we’ve had it with, and we’re going to make that list a lot longer. This is good stuff.Wine Spectator: “Rich and full of dense and spicy dark plum, dried blackberry and mocha flavors. Dark chocolate and smoky notes show on the ripe finish, with dried savory herbal accents. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2023.” Feb 2020Winery: “This juicy red blend is loaded with vivid summer fruit – red plum, red cherry, black cherry, and strawberry – along with rhubarb, spice, and red licorice.
